Methodology
How verified trust scoring works
Every contractor on Home Project Pilot carries a trust score built only from evidence we can point at: public review data, license verification, business standing and homeowner outcomes. The weighting model itself is proprietary, but the inputs, their sources and their verification dates are shown to every homeowner on the profile — so a reader can always audit what the score is made of, even though the formula is not published.
Public review reputation
Rating quality and review volume pulled directly from the Google Places API, refreshed on a schedule and timestamped so a reader can see when it was last verified.
License and insurance verification
State or municipal license status confirmed against the issuing authority and recorded with a verification date, not self-reported by the business.
Business standing and longevity
Accreditation status and the number of years the business has verifiably operated under its current identity.
Homeowner outcomes on the platform
Verified member reviews and post-project outcome surveys sent 7 and 30 days after a homeowner requests a quote.
What can move a score
Verifiable data only: a renewed license, new public reviews, additional years in business, verified homeowner outcomes.
What cannot move a score
Membership fees, advertising, claiming a profile, responding to reviews, or any payment of any kind.
What we disclose
Every input, its source, and when it was last verified — plus a clear label when a business has not been verified at all.
Note for reporters: we do not publish per-signal point values or the calculation itself. Publishing the weights would let businesses optimize against the score instead of improving the underlying record. We are happy to walk a journalist through the model on background.

7- and 30-day follow-ups
Disclosure shown to the homeowner: this business pays a membership fee for verification and portal tools. That fee has no effect on its trust score, its position in results, or which homeowners see it.
Most contractor directories sell placement or resell homeowner contact details as leads. Home Project Pilot takes membership fees from contractors for tools and verification only — money cannot move a trust score, ranking or lead order, and homeowner project details are never resold.
Diagnostic-first, quote-second
Homeowners answer plain-English questions about what they actually see, and the platform tells them whether to monitor, maintain, inspect or replace — including when a replacement quote would be premature.
Price transparency with citations
Regional 2026 pricing benchmarks with sourced line items let homeowners check a bid before signing, rather than after.
AI grounded in facts, not vibes
The assistant reasons over the homeowner's own home profile, their diagnostic answers, verified pricing data and vetted contractor records — and asks follow-up questions instead of guessing.

Home Project Pilot is an independent decision-support platform for homeowners. It combines transparent, verifiable contractor trust scores, diagnostic tools that tell homeowners whether a problem needs monitoring or money, regional pricing benchmarks, and a private project vault for documents and bids. Contractors cannot buy ranking, placement or trust score points, and homeowner project details are never sold to lead networks. https://www.homeprojectpilot.com
