7 Red Flags When Hiring a Gutter Contractor

4 min readPublished August 19, 20263 cited sources

How to spot pressure tactics, phantom licensing and warranty language that means nothing.

1. Door-knocking after a storm Legitimate local companies are booked after storms. They are not walking your street.

2. "Today only" pricing A real estimate is valid for weeks, not hours.

3. No written scope The estimate should name the material, gauge, size, hanger type, downspout count, and disposal.

4. Large deposits More than 30% up front on a job this size is a warning sign.

5. Unverifiable license Ask for the number and check it with your state or municipality yourself.

6. Warranty on materials only Material warranties come from the manufacturer. What matters is the workmanship warranty and how long the company has existed to honor it.

7. No proof of insurance Request a certificate of insurance sent directly from their carrier.
